About Vätterhem
Vätterhem is Jönköping Municipality's largest municipal housing company and manages 9,045 rental homes in Jönköping and Huskvarna, including in Råslätt, Österängen, Öxnehaga, Strandängen and the city centre. Alongside ordinary rentals they let student homes, 55-plus housing, sheltered housing from age 65, plus parking spaces and storage. You can join the parking queue before you move in, but you may only register interest once you have signed an apartment contract. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue runs on points. You earn two points per day from the day you register, and the points are personal. They cannot be transferred. Vacant homes are listed for seven days, you may have at most five interest registrations at a time, and among those who meet the letting rules the offer goes to the applicant with the most points. If two people have the same score, whoever registered first is prioritised. Existing tenants compete on the same points, with no internal precedence. One exception sits outside the points: homes with a short move-in can be published as Lottning, where the system draws lots for the order regardless of queue points. For a contract you need a Swedish personal identity number, net income of at least twice the monthly rent, no payment defaults or outstanding debts, and no poor references. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.
Vätterhem publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. They publish no exact figure in months. To keep your points you must log in to Mina sidor at least once a year, within 12 months, or the account and the points are deleted and cannot be restored. When you sign a tenancy the queue points reset to zero for every contract holder. You can rejoin the queue at the earliest after the new contract has started.
