Väsbyhem housing queue

Väsbyhem is owned by Upplands Väsby Municipality and manages around 5,000 rental apartments in the municipality, plus around 60,000 sqm of commercial premises. Alongside ordinary rentals there are youth and shared-friend homes from 18 through the year you turn 26, student housing and senior apartments. Upplands Väsby has no municipal housing agency, and Väsbyhem does not hand homes to Bostadsförmedlingen i Stockholm. Everything is applied for in the own queue on Mina sidor. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register, and the points are personal. They cannot be transferred. If you are registered as living in Upplands Väsby you can join from 16, otherwise from 18. You can sign a contract only from 18. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among those who meet the letting rules, queue time decides. No priority is given. The exception is BoLotto: homes with a quick move-in are listed on Mondays and Thursdays for 24 hours, and the system draws a random ranking among those who registered interest, with no regard to points. It is not Bostadsförmedlingen's queue, but the points count from the day you join Väsbyhem's own queue. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.

Väsbyhem write that queue times currently average around 7-9 years, but that it varies between homes. They publish no exact figure in months. How long it takes depends on the size of the home, the area and how many applicants with longer queue time apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once a year, or the points and personal data are cleared. When you sign an ordinary tenancy the queue time resets and then counts from the new contract's start date. The exceptions are youth and student housing, where you lose two years and keep the rest, and shared-friend housing, where you keep the queue time.
