Strömstadsbyggen housing queue

AB Strömstadsbyggen is owned by Strömstad Municipality and is the municipality's municipal housing company. At the end of 2024 they had 1,617 rental homes, in Strömstad town, Skee, Näsinge and Mällby, and in the archipelago on Rossö, Tjärnö, Nordkoster and Sydkoster. Alongside ordinary rentals there are youth homes for ages 18-25, senior homes from 55 and 60, and sheltered housing from 70. Garages and parking spaces are let too. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register. The points are personal and tied to the personal identity number. You need a Swedish personal identity number or a coordination number. When a home falls vacant it is listed for seven days. You may register interest in at most five vacant homes at a time. The five applicants with the longest waiting time are offered a viewing, and among those who meet the letting criteria the applicant with the most points is offered the contract. You can register once you have turned 16, but interest registration and a contract require 18. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.

Strömstadsbyggen publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. They publish no exact figure in months. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once a year, or you lose them. When you sign an ordinary tenancy the points reset. Youth homes for ages 18-25 are the exception: you keep the points when you move in. If you turn down five homes within six months, or do not reply, you are blocked from applying for three months. During the block you keep collecting points.
