SSSB housing queue

SSSB (Stiftelsen Stockholms studentbostäder) owns and lets 8,513 student homes in Stockholm, Solna, Nacka and Huddinge. Roughly half are student rooms, the rest studio and larger student apartments. Registering is free. There is no annual fee. You can join the queue from the year you turn 17, and at latest the year you turn 50. A tenancy is signed no earlier than 18.

The queue runs on queue days. You earn one day for each day you stand in it. When a home is published you register interest, at most three at a time, and the offer goes to whoever has the most days. A tie goes to whoever registered first. To collect more than 90 queue days you need to be an active student and a member of a student union affiliated with SSCO. Support membership is not enough. The same personal identity number and email must be used at the union and at SSSB. If membership has not appeared on Mina sidor within 90 days you must park the queue before day 91, or it is deleted. A parked place keeps the days you have but collects no new ones. In total the queue may be parked for 36 months, after which it is deleted.

SSSB publishes an average wait of around one year for a corridor room and around two years for an apartment. There is no regular login. What keeps the queue alive is that union membership stays active. When a tenancy has been signed the queue days are deleted. You can activate the place again and start collecting new days, but you are blocked from registering interest for three months after the contract starts. You can live there for at most six years.
