SKB housing queue

SKB, Stockholms Kooperativa Bostadsförening, is a co-operative rental association. It builds, manages and lets apartments to its members as co-operative tenancies. It is not a municipal queue and not an ordinary rental. On 31 December 2025 the association had 8,878 apartments in eight municipalities: Stockholm, Botkyrka, Solna, Sundbyberg, Tyresö, Täby, Uppsala and Värmdö. Roughly half are in Stockholm's inner city. Members numbered 93,695, of whom 85,007 stood in the queue. Membership is a place in the queue. Joining costs SEK 2,250, of which SEK 2,000 is the membership deposit and SEK 250 is the annual fee for the calendar year you join. The annual fee is then SEK 250 a year. Under 18 it is SEK 125. There is no age limit to become a member. A contract is signed no earlier than 18.

Ranking counts from the day SKB receives the payment when you become a member. Vacant apartments are published from Wednesday 08.00 to Tuesday 12.00. You must be a member and logged in to register interest. The member with the longest ranking among those who have registered interest and meet the conditions gets the apartment. SKB publishes average wait times by area. They publish no single average for the queue as a whole. For Stockholm's inner city and the inner suburbs they state from 35 years, for the outer suburbs from 30 years. In newly built blocks and in municipalities where SKB is new the waits are often shorter. They publish no exact figure in months for the queue as a whole. SKB lets for permanent residence. If you come up for a contract the home with SKB must be your permanent residence. If you have a tenancy with another landlord you must show that it has been given notice. If you own a tenant-owned apartment or a house it should as a rule be sold. There is no regular login. What keeps the membership alive is that the annual fee is paid by 31 March.
