SBS housing queue

SBS, Studentbostäder i Norden, lets 6,581 student homes in 18 student cities in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. In some cities there are also youth apartments for people aged 18 to 27 who work, and ordinary rentals with their own income rules. Everything is applied for through the same housing queue, and registering is free. There is no annual fee. You do not need to be a student to collect points.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among the applicants who meet the letting policy, more points carry the most weight. The policy says all lettings should follow queue points, but local deviations can occur. In some cities it is first come, first served, and some homes are also let through other housing agencies. It is one and the same queue for every city. The points count from the day you join and keep ticking until you accept a contract. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.

SBS publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the location, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. There is no requirement to log in at set intervals. Once you are registered you stay in the queue and keep your points without logging in. To rent a student home you must be a full-time student at a university, university college, vocational programme or national upper-secondary school, taking at least 30 credits per term and passing at least 15 credits or the equivalent. That is verified with a letter of admission and a registration certificate. Payment defaults are not accepted.
