About Rikshem
Alongside ordinary rentals, Rikshem lets student homes, senior apartments from age 55, youth apartments, parking spaces and storage. Everything is applied for through the same applicant account, and registering is free. There is no annual fee. The company's own queue does not cover the whole stock. In Uppsala and Knivsta, homes are let through Uppsala Bostadsförmedling. In Greater Stockholm, including Solna, Sigtuna, Märsta and Upplands Väsby, they go through Bostadsförmedlingen in Stockholm. In Södertälje you can apply both through Rikshem's own queue and through Bostadsförmedlingen. In Malmö and Lund, homes go through Boplats Syd. The external agencies have their own rules, but allocation follows Rikshem's letting policy.
The queue runs on points. You get one point per day from the day you register, and you can see the balance on Mina sidor. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among the applicants who meet the letting policy it is allocated mainly by points. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the time you have stood in the queue. Other letting methods can occur, for example when a home needs a fast move-in or when a large batch of new-build is released. Parking and storage are allocated first come, first served, not by points.
Rikshem publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the location, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. They give no exact figure in months. To keep your points you need to log in at least once every twelve months, or the profile is deleted and the points cannot be restored. When you sign a permanent contract the points reset and you are barred from applying for a year. On a short-term contract you keep the points.
