About Mimer
Mimer is Västerås Municipality's municipal housing company and the largest landlord in the municipality, with 12,096 rental homes across 31 areas. It is the landlord's own queue, not the same thing as Bostad Västerås, which is a housing agency. Mimer's student homes, just over 850, and youth apartments for ages 18-27 are allocated through Bostad Västerås. Alongside ordinary rentals Mimer has 55-plus apartments, houses and short-term contracts. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register, and the points are personal. They cannot be combined or transferred, except on death or a move into care. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among the applicants who meet Mimer's basic requirements, the offer goes to the one with the most points. Some homes are let without points: they have already been listed once without being let, and then the applicant who meets the basic requirements and first signs the contract gets the home. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.
Mimer publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. They publish no exact figure in months. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once every twelve months, or you lose them. When you accept an ordinary contract the points reset, including on an internal swap within Mimer. Turning an offer down keeps them, and there is no limit on how many times you may say no. The exceptions are point-free lets and short-term contracts: there you keep the points.
