MBAB housing queue

MBAB, Mörbylånga Bostads AB, is Mörbylånga Municipality's wholly owned housing company and lets around 800 apartments in seven localities on southern Öland: Mörbylånga, Färjestaden, Algutsrum, Skogsby, Gårdby, Degerhamn and Grönhögen. Most of them are in Färjestaden and Mörbylånga. Alongside ordinary rentals they let garages, carports and storage. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register, and the points are personal. They cannot be transferred. When a home falls vacant you register interest via the website or by phone, and among the applicants who meet the letting policy, the offer goes to the one with the most points. MBAB grant no priority. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking. The income rule is at least 100,000 kr a year before tax; for homes with rent above 6,000 kr a month the rent may not exceed 60 percent of income. Benefits count as income. The home must be a permanent residence for your own use.

MBAB publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the locality, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. They publish no exact figure in months. To keep your points you need to log in and update your search profile at least once a year, counted from your last login, or you are removed from the queue. When you sign a new tenancy the points reset, including on an internal transfer, but you are automatically reactivated from the day the new contract starts. You may turn down two offers; on the third the points reset.
