MatarengiHem housing queue

Stiftelsen Matarengihem is Övertorneå Municipality's public housing foundation, with 474 rental homes in Övertorneå, Pello and Hedenäset. Most of them, around 380, are in Övertorneå and Turovaara. Alongside ordinary rentals, the homes at Tingshusvägen 1 and Sockenvägen 22 are adapted for older people, and anyone moving in must be at least 70. Homes at Matarengivägen 6 go first to applicants with medical priority. Students enrolled at Utbildning Nord cannot be allocated a home through the foundation. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on queue time, not points. You register through Mina sidor or via MatarengiHem's customer service. When a home falls vacant you register interest on the website, and among the applicants who meet the letting policy, the one with the longest queue time gets it. If two or more have the same queue time it is decided by drawing lots. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the time counts from the day you register. That is why joining early is worthwhile, even before you start looking. To sign a contract you must be of legal age, hold a Swedish personal identity number or coordination number, and as a guideline the monthly rent should be at most 30 percent of your income. MatarengiHem run a credit check and take references from a previous landlord.

MatarengiHem publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with longer queue time apply for the same one. They publish no exact figure in months. To count as an active applicant you need to log in at least once every six months. They do not publish what happens to your queue time when you sign a contract.
