Malungshem housing queue

Malungshem AB is Malung-Sälen Municipality's public housing company and lets 946 rental homes from Yttermalung in the south to Sörsjön in the north, including in Malung, Sälen, Lima, Transtrand, Malungsfors, Rörbäcksnäs and Öje. Alongside ordinary rentals they let furnished student housing at Storbygärdet and Fällen for pupils at Malung-Sälen gymnasieskola. That is applied for through the school, not the ordinary queue, plus garages and parking spaces. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register as an applicant, and the points are personal. They cannot be transferred, except on death or a permanent move into care. Vacant homes are listed for seven days, you register interest, at most three at a time, and viewing goes to the three with the most points. Among those who meet the letting policy, the contract goes to whoever has the most points after a credit check. Some homes are listed instead as Marknadsplats Direkt: then the viewing in principle goes to whoever applies first. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking. You can stand in the queue from 16. To sign a contract you must have turned 18, have a Swedish personal identity number, home insurance and after-tax income that covers the rent plus Kronofogden's standard living amount for at least six months. You must have no debt to Malungshem or another landlord, and no unsettled debt or payment default from the past twelve months. Income support must be confirmed by Malung Municipality. Anyone moving here for work can apply for business priority, but it does not guarantee a home.

Malungshem publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. They publish no exact figure in months. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once every twelve months, or the points reset and cannot be restored. When you accept a tenancy the points reset. If you want to collect new points you have to reactivate yourself in the queue, and you cannot apply for another home for the next six months.
