About Kopparstaden
Kopparstaden is Falu Municipality's municipal housing company and owns around 6,234 rental homes, 220 commercial premises and 771 storage units in Falun. Alongside ordinary rentals they have a separate student queue for anyone studying at least 50 percent at Högskolan Dalarna or Playground Squad, and a senior queue where you can register from 60 and sign from 65, with no children living at home. Parking spaces and storage are applied for in their own queues. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register in each queue, and the points are personal. They cannot be transferred, except on death or when a spouse or partner moves into residential care. When a home falls vacant you register interest, three at a time at most, and among those who meet the letting rules it goes to the applicant with the most points. Bostad Direkt is the exception: the ad is up for only 24 hours, and the home goes either by points or to ten randomly chosen applicants. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.
Kopparstaden publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once every twelve months, or the points reset and cannot be restored. When you are allocated a home the points reset; you do not have to register again, and from the next day you start collecting from 1 as long as you keep the account active. If you swap apartments the points reset in the same way.
