Kilsbostäder housing queue

Kilsbostäder AB is Kil Municipality's public housing company and has let homes in the municipality since 1953. Today they manage 800 apartments, most of them central in Kil and some in Fagerås, including a sheltered-housing scheme in the centre with 29 homes. Alongside ordinary rentals they let parking spaces and garages, and the sheltered housing at Västra Torggatan 3 (Kils Trygga hem) is applied for from age 65. The Timmermannen cooperative has its own queue and requires a deposit before you move in. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. From the day you activate your place you earn one point per day, and you can see the balance on Mina sidor. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among those who meet the letting policy the five with the most points are called to a viewing. The contract goes to the applicant with the most points whose applicant profile, credit check and references are approved. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you activate the queue. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking. Homes marked Poängfritt have already been listed without being let: then the contract goes to the first person who signs and meets the basic requirements, regardless of points.

Kilsbostäder publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. They publish no exact figure in months. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once a year, counted from the date you registered, or the points are lost. When you sign a tenancy the points reset and you are blocked from applying for a home for a year. You can still join the queue and collect new points during the block.
