About Karlskronahem
Karlskronahem is owned by Karlskrona Municipality and is the municipality's largest landlord, with around 4,000 rental homes, including almost 600 student apartments. Alongside ordinary rentals there is student housing, gymnasium housing for pupils not registered as living in the municipality, 65+ homes, and queues for parking and storage. Parking and storage can be applied for even if you do not already live with Karlskronahem, and are let first come, first served, with existing tenants given priority. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register, and you can see the balance on Mina sidor. When a home falls vacant you register interest, at most five at a time. Among those who have said yes and meet the letting policy, the contract goes to the applicant with the most points. Alongside the points queue there is Bodirekt: then the contract goes to whoever registered interest first, regardless of points, primarily if you do not already rent from Karlskronahem and need a home quickly. Student apartments are instead let first come, first served, and new students without housing are prioritised. To rent student housing you must be 18, admitted to BTH or another YH, higher-education or folk high school programme in Karlskrona, and studying full time. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.
Karlskronahem publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once a year, or they are reset. The home must be your permanent residence. They do not accept dual residence in the municipality. For student housing the registration is deleted when you get a contract. If you want to search again later you have to register afresh, and the right to stay ends when your studies do.
