Hyresbostäder housing queue

Hyresbostäder i Norrköping AB is Norrköping's municipally owned housing company and the city's largest landlord, with around 10,000 rental homes in Norrköping, Åby, Jursla, Skärblacka, Krokek and Kvarsebo. Alongside ordinary rentals they let student homes through Studentbo, Unga hem for ages 18-24, senior apartments from 65, plus parking spaces and storage. Apartments, student housing, parking and storage have their own queues. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register. When a home falls vacant you register interest, up to ten at a time, and among the applicants who meet the letting guidelines, viewing is offered to about five with the most points. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking. Homes are let in three ways: by queue points, as poängfritt where a lottery decides who views, and as new-build where three quarters are drawn by lot and one quarter go through the queue.

Hyresbostäder publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to update your interest registration at least once a year, or you are removed from the queue and the points are lost. When you sign a contract the points reset and you have to join the queue again. That applies to apartments, parking spaces and storage. Poängfritt homes are the exception: if you get one you keep your points.
