Hoforshus housing queue

Hoforshus AB is owned by Hofors municipality through Hofors Kommunhus AB and lets around 1,000 apartments in Hofors, Robertsholm and Torsåker. Alongside ordinary rentals they have homes for residents aged 55 and over and 70 and over, a youth discount for ages 18-21 and a student discount. Parking has its own queue, and only someone who already holds a tenancy can rent a space. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day you register as an applicant, and the points are personal. They cannot be transferred or combined. You can register from the year you turn 16, but a contract is signed only from 18. When a home falls vacant you register interest, at most three at a time. Among the applicants who meet Hoforshus's letting policy, the contract goes to the one with the most points. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking. Hoforshus set basic requirements on finances, references and the purpose of the tenancy. Some homes sit outside the queue, for internal priority, cooperation with the municipality or business-relocation priority.

Hoforshus publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to update your application at least once every twelve months, or it is deleted and the points are lost. If you already live with them you must have stayed at least two years in the same apartment before you can register interest in another home of the same size. On an apartment swap the ordinary application is deleted.
