About HFAB
HFAB is Halmstad Municipality's municipal housing company and lets around 11,000 apartments and 300 commercial premises in the municipality. Alongside ordinary rentals they have around 650 student homes for anyone studying at Högskolan i Halmstad, youth apartments for anyone under 25 and senior apartments from 60. Parking is applied for in a separate queue, open only to existing tenants. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue runs on points. There are two housing queues, and you have to tick the ones you want to collect points in: the ordinary apartment queue and the student queue. You can join the ordinary queue from 16 and apply from 18. Youth and senior homes are applied for in that same queue. You can activate the student queue from 18, and points there cannot be credited retroactively from the ordinary queue. Most homes go to whoever has the most points among those who meet the letting rules, but some are allocated by lottery. Then everyone who registered interest has the same chance, regardless of points. You can register interest in up to ten homes at a time in each category. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.
HFAB publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to log in to Mina sidor at least once every 365 days, or the points are deleted and you are no longer in any of the queues. If you move to another HFAB apartment the points reset. If you move away from HFAB you keep the points you collected while living there, as long as you confirm the queue. A short-term contract does not reset the points.
