Heimstaden housing queue

Alongside ordinary rentals, Heimstaden lets more than 5,000 student homes across several university towns, both furnished and unfurnished, plus parking spaces, garages and charging spots. Everything is applied for through the same applicant account, and registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue does not work like a municipal housing agency. You get no numbered place and there are no queue points to collect. What decides instead is how long you have been a registered applicant: when a home falls vacant you register interest, and among the applicants who meet Heimstaden's letting policy, the registration date carries the most weight. Heimstaden call it guiding rather than absolute. In some cases other factors count too, such as being able to move in quickly. Your registration time counts from the day you create the account, even though you cannot see it as a position in a list.

Heimstaden publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the location, the size of the home and how many others apply for the same one. To count as an active applicant you need to log in at least once every six months, or the account is deleted. And once you do get an apartment the applicant account closes automatically. If you want to search again you have to register afresh, with a new registration date.
