About Eidar
Alongside ordinary rentals, Eidar lets just over 400 student homes, youth apartments for people aged 18 to 25 and senior apartments from 65 with no children still at home. They also let parking spaces and storage. Everything is applied for through the same Mina sidor account, and registering is free. There is no annual fee. Students at Högskolan Väst who take at least 15 credits per term and have a one-way public-transport commute of more than 30 minutes have a housing guarantee.
The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day in the queue, and the points are personal. They cannot be combined or transferred. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among the applicants who meet Eidar's basic requirements, the three to five with the most points are offered a viewing. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking. Bostad Direkt is the exception: those listings are first-come, first-served, with no regard to points.
Eidar publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. Centrum often has a longer wait than other areas. To keep your points you need to log in at least once every twelve months, and the applicant profile needs updating every six months. When you sign a tenancy the points reset. You are automatically registered in the queue again, but blocked from registering interest for the first year.
