About Chalmers Studentbostäder
Chalmers Studentbostäder owns and lets 2,382 student homes near Chalmers' Johanneberg and Lindholmen campuses. The homes are for people enrolled at Chalmers University of Technology or the University of Gothenburg, and under the foundation's statutes they are let preferably to members of Chalmers Studentkår. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue runs on points. Before you are admitted as a student you can collect preparatory points: one point per day, capped at 365, and only the first time you register. After that you need membership of a student union in Gothenburg for the points to keep counting up. Membership of Chalmers Studentkår gives two points per day; membership of any other union in Göteborgs Förenade Studentkårer gives one point per day. If your union membership lapses you earn no points for the days you are not a member, and points are not awarded retroactively. Homes go to the applicant with the most points, and a tie is settled by lottery. When you get a home the points reset, and you have to activate yourself in the queue again to collect new ones.
Chalmers Studentbostäder publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the size of the home, the area and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to log in at least once every six months, or the registration is reset and you lose your queue time.
