About Botkyrkabyggen
Botkyrkabyggen owns and manages 10,780 rental homes in Alby, Fittja, Norsborg, Storvreten, Tumba and Tullinge. More than one in four Botkyrka residents lives with them. Alongside ordinary rentals there are youth apartments, from 18 through the year you turn 27, and senior apartments from 65 with no children under 18 still at home. Some homes are also listed with Bostadsförmedlingen in Stockholm. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day from the day after you register, and you can see the balance on Mina sidor. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among the applicants who meet the letting policy, the ten with the most points get a viewing. No priority is given. If you are registered as living in Botkyrka you can join the queue from 16, others from 18. You can apply for a home only from 18. Bostad-Bums is the exception: those homes go to whoever registers interest first and meets the rules, regardless of points, but you still have to be in the queue. It is not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place, but the points count from the day after you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.
Botkyrkabyggen write that the average wait in recent years has been about 6 years, and that senior and youth apartments often have a shorter wait. They publish no exact figure in months for the queue as a whole. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to update your interest registration at least once a year, or you are removed from the queue. When you sign an ordinary tenancy the points reset, but you start collecting again from move-in. Youth apartments are the exception: you keep all your queue time. If you move out of Botkyrkabyggen the points reset, and new ones count from the day you join the queue again.
