About Bostad Västerås
Bostad Västerås is not a single landlord but a housing agency that has, since 1992, worked with many property owners in Västerås. They allocate ordinary rentals, youth apartments, sheltered housing and all student homes in the city. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.
The queue does not work like a municipal housing agency. You get no numbered place and there are no queue points to collect. Bostad Västerås write that they do not work with queue time. Ordinary rentals are allocated according to each landlord's letting policy: when a home falls vacant you register interest and hear back after the application deadline. Student homes work differently. They are first-come, first-served, you get an offer as soon as you register interest, and you can apply for only one at a time. To apply for a student home you need an admission letter covering at least 15 credits per term or equivalent, which you email to info@bostadvasteras.se or upload on Mina sidor.
Bostad Västerås publish no average queue time and write that they cannot estimate how long it takes before you are offered a home. How long it takes depends on which home you apply for, which landlord's requirements apply and how many others register interest. You need to log in and update your details at least once a year. When you get a contract through them you are automatically deregistered. For student homes the registration is blocked as soon as you accept, your details are deleted after a month, and the earliest you can register again is one month after you accepted.
