Boplats Väst housing queue

Boplats Väst is not a landlord. It is an agency owned by the City of Gothenburg through Boplats Göteborg AB. It collects vacant rentals from municipal and private landlords, among them Poseidon, Bostadsbolaget, Familjebostäder and Gårdstensbostäder, and lists them in one shared queue. Those companies have no public queue of their own. In 2025 it let 6,853 homes. On 31 December 2025, 307,593 people stood in the queue. The annual fee is SEK 200, including VAT, for anyone aged 22 or over. From 17 to 21 it is free to hold an account and collect queue days. There is no regular login. For anyone who pays, what keeps the place alive is that the fee is paid.

The queue runs on queue days, not on a visible place number. Days count from the day the account is active, which for anyone aged 22 or over means the fee has been paid. When a home is advertised you register interest, five at a time. The applicant with the most queue days who meets the landlord's conditions is put forward as tenant. Some ads rank first by points with a particular landlord, and only then by Boplats queue days. The landlord sets those conditions, not the agency. The average wait for homes let in 2025 was 2,493 queue days, about 6.8 years. Alongside ordinary rentals there are student homes, senior homes from age 55 and sheltered housing from 65 or 70.

If you do not pay the fee within 30 days of the due date the account goes inactive. Your queue days are not deleted, but you collect no new ones and cannot apply until you pay. After 24 months inactive the account is deleted. A tenancy through boplats.se resets the queue days, which then start again for as long as you keep paying. Short-term contracts without security of tenure are the exception: there you keep the days.
