Boplats Syd housing queue

Boplats Syd is not a landlord. It is a municipal housing agency owned by the City of Malmö. It collects vacant rentals from private and municipal landlords in Skåne and lists them in one shared queue. MKB Fastighets AB, Malmö's municipal housing company, has no public queue of its own. Vacant MKB homes are applied for here. In 2025 it let 9,350 homes for 92 landlords in 31 of Skåne's 33 municipalities, most of them in Malmö with 6,592. On 31 December 2025, 168,104 people stood in the queue. The fee is SEK 300 a year, unchanged since 2009. There is no regular login. What keeps the place alive is that the fee is paid.

The queue is straight and runs on queue time, not on a visible place number. Time counts from the day the fee arrives in Boplats Syd's bank account, and it is personal. You may join in the calendar year you turn 16, and register interest from 18. When a home is advertised, usually three to seven days, you register interest. The applicant with the longest queue time who meets the landlord's conditions is put forward as tenant. The landlord sets those conditions, not the agency. The average wait was 3.2 years in 2025. The median was 2.1 years. A third of the homes went to applicants with under a year's queue time.

If you miss the fee you cannot apply while it is unpaid. If payment has not arrived within 60 days, counted from the first registration or from the end of the paid period, the account is deactivated and the queue time is lost. A new registration counts from when the next payment arrives. A tenancy contract resets the queue time, which then counts from the moving-in date. Student homes, short-term contracts without security of tenure and homes marked Behåll din kötid are the exceptions: there you keep the time. To register interest you must update your details at least every six months. If you do not, you keep the queue time, but you cannot apply until the details are updated.
