ÅKAB housing queue

ÅKAB (Åmåls Kommunfastigheter AB) is Åmål municipality's public housing company and manages around 1,100 rental homes and 71,000 square metres of commercial space. The homes are in Åmål and in the countryside at Tösse and Fengersfors. Standing in the queue costs 100 kronor a year. If you already hold a tenancy with ÅKAB you are exempt from the fee.

The queue uses points, but it is not a pure points queue. When a home falls vacant it is offered to the applicant ÅKAB currently considers best suited. Existing tenants and applicants with labour-market priority can be given special consideration. Often more than one person is in play; then queue time is decisive. You register interest on Mina sidor, for at most six homes at a time. The offer goes out to several people at once, and among those who accept, registered points, income and an individual assessment all count. Queue time is personal and cannot be transferred. It is ÅKAB's own queue, not a municipal housing agency with a numbered place.

ÅKAB publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the size of the home, the area and how many others apply for the same one. They give no exact figure in months. There is no published requirement to log in at set intervals to keep your place. What you must do is pay the annual fee of 100 kronor, or the registration and queue place are deleted. If you turn down or fail to reply to five offers within a year you are blocked for twelve months.
