ABK housing queue

Alongside ordinary rentals, ABK has separate queues for student homes, youth apartments, senior apartments, new-build, parking spaces and storage. Students have precedence in the student queue. You can join and apply in the youth queue up to the day you turn 25. You can join the senior queue from 50 and register interest from the year you turn 65. Registering is free. There is no annual fee.

The queue runs on points. You earn one point per day in each queue you are registered in, and you can see the balance on Mina sidor. When a home falls vacant you register interest, and among the applicants who meet ABK's letting policy, the one with the most points gets it. Registration is personal and points cannot be transferred. It is not a municipal housing agency with a single numbered place, but the points count from the day you join. That is why registering early is worthwhile, even before you start looking.

ABK publish no average queue time. How long it takes depends on the area, the size of the home and how many applicants with more points apply for the same one. To keep your points you need to update your registration by logging in at least once a year, within 365 days, or you are removed from every queue and the points are lost. When you sign a contract the points in that queue are used up, but you stay in the other queues. You can join the used-up queue again from the first contract day, but you cannot apply for a new home in any queue until six months later (exactly 185 days).
